Is there anything more Australian than spending a sunny Sunday afternoon with your mates and a few drinks? Often, there doesn’t need to be an excuse to celebrate. Instead, it’s purely just a time to get together with your favourite people and live it up on a Sunday – no matter what time of year.

If you’ve got a little leeway with your Monday morning schedule and can afford to wake up feeling a little worse for wear, the Gold Coast is where you want to spend the final hours of your weekend. It’s somewhere to stretch out the end-of-week break just that little bit longer and dial up the fun, before heading back into the office the very next day.

As a beautiful beachside destination with an ultra laid back culture, the Gold Coast is a mecca for Sunday sessions. From chilled out coastal vibes to seriously glam affairs, this city has got it all. Plus, they’ve also got plenty of friendly locals looking to have a good time, which only adds to the ambience.

Ahead of your weekend out on the coast, we’ve rounded up the places that embrace Sunday frolics and offer the perfect setting to cap off your weekend. Ready to get things started? Read on to discover the top five venues on the Gold Coast.

Top Sunday Venues Gold Coast

Burleigh Pavilion

For any Gold Coast local or traveller worth their salt, Burleigh Pavilion is an absolute institution for a good old Sunday sesh. Located right in the heart of Burleigh Heads and sitting on the very edge of the beach, this place has a front row seat to the very best view in the house. Head inside the all-white building and snag a picnic table that overlooks the water for an afternoon to remember.

The venue offers both a sit down (The Tropic) and a more casual menu, as well as all the lovely sips you need to toast to your weekend. With everything from frozen rose and the Gold Coast’s best espresso martinis to champagne on ice and a fully-stocked bar of spirits, you’ll undoubtedly find your drink of choice here. When paired with the buzzing atmosphere, there’s no way you won’t have a good time at ‘The Pav’.

Cali Beach

Anyone that hasn’t heard of the new multi-million dollar beach club opening its door in Surfers Paradise has obviously been living under a rock because Cali Beach is all anyone can talk about. From luxe poolside day beds, incredible dining and bars, multiple glimmering pools, an outdoor cinema and even a beach volleyball court, this place has taken Gold Coast entertainment to a whole new level and created the perfect space for a Sunday session.

The four-story venue is located on the corner of Surfers Paradise Blvd and Elkhorn Avenue, which makes it super easy to reach from just about anywhere. As well as being super convenient, this location also offers a killer view of the beach, city skyline and beyond. During the day, you can soak up the sun and chill out to the sound of internationally acclaimed DJs. Once the last of the sun rays disappear below the horizon, Cali Beach turns it up with music pumping well into the night. It’s the sort of place you want to go when you’ve got nowhere to be on Monday morning.

Mermaid Beach Tavern

The Mermaid Beach Tavern is a must-visit for anyone visiting the Gold Coast. As a hallmark of the Gold Coast, the venue recently reopened its doors after a revamp and is now back into the swing of delivering sun-drenched fun all year round. Make your way into the Tav from the Gold Coast Highway entry to be greeted by natural light spilling in through the various overhead skylights and shimmering on the neutral tones, light wood hues and hanging green plants.

The airy and spacious area is a great family-friendly section, but it’s just the beginning. Wander downstairs and you’ll find a sleek gaming lounge with its own bar, sports bar and dozens of big screens. There’s also the north-facing decked terrace, where you can watch the world go by with a beer in hand. What’s not to love about that?

The rooftop bar is the perfect spot to enjoy a sunny afternoon on the Gold Coast, with a stunning view of the Burleigh foreshore to admire, a perfectly shaken fruity cocktail in hand and the very best woodfired pizza you’ll ever taste.

Oozing personality from the get-go, this Burleigh Heads institution really knows how to put on a good time. In the afternoons, you can enjoy the experience while tapping your feet to the groovy tunes of all the region’s up and coming DJs.
